In Jewish mystical traditions and modern lexicons, Hasdiel is recorded as an angelic name associated with benevolence and planetary governance. In A Dictionary of Angels (printed page 136), Gustav Davidson reports Hasdiel as an angel of Venus and benevolence, reporting the benevolence title from a German-type mezuzah. He adds that Hasdiel shares that office with Zadkiel and refers to The Book of the Angel Raziel. Davidson also summarizes a Zohar-cited passage (Numbers 154b) wherein Hasdiel and Shamshiel accompany Uriel as chieftains when he bears his standard.
In his 1897 Vocabulaire de l’angélologie (printed pages 130–131), Moïse Schwab catalogues HasdiEl with notices linking him to Venus and the month of Adar, as a companion of Metatron, and as an overseer in the fourth heavenly hall. These offices are reported by the two compilers from different texts; the account here attributes each notice to its reference work.
