Heman is a heavenly official associated with morning praise in Zohar 3:64b, in the Aharei Mot section. Daniel C. Matt’s English translation describes Heman overseeing the morning singers, with subordinate officials arranging their song.
The main text connects this heavenly official with an earthly counterpart. Matt’s accompanying note 206 identifies that counterpart with the biblical Heman named in Psalm 88’s heading. The passage’s heavenly office and the commentary’s identification should be distinguished; a shared name need not become a claim of literal historical transformation.
