Mihr.

Mihr is the Middle Persian name for the Zoroastrian Mithra, as identified in Werner Sundermann’s Encyclopaedia Iranica account.

The Mihr Yasht

The Mihr Yasht, or Yasht 10, is a hymn to Mithra. In James Darmesteter’s English translation, its opening calls Mithra a yazata. Section 1 describes Ahura Mazda telling Zarathushtra that he created Mithra as worthy of prayer and sacrifice as himself.

Section 2 concerns the keeping of contracts. It warns against breaking an agreement whether made with someone of the same faith or with an unbeliever. The passage presents Mithra’s significance within this Zoroastrian religious setting.
