Pronoia speaks as a divine personification in the closing hymn of the Apocryphon of John.
Light and remembrance
In Frederik Wisse’s composite translation, Pronoia is associated with light and remembrance of the pleroma. The speaker describes three descents into darkness and a prison, awakens a sleeper, and seals him in light with five seals.
The hymn’s speaker moves through darkness and imprisonment toward awakening and light.
