Atrugiel is a great heavenly prince named in 3 Enoch, also called the Hebrew Book of Enoch. Chapter 18 places him in a sequence of princes who remove their crowns and fall on their faces before the next figure.
Atrugiel in the sequence of homage
In Hugo Odeberg’s translation of 18:9, Tutresiel sees Atrugiel, removes his crown of glory and prostrates himself. In 18:10, Atrugiel performs the same gesture on seeing Na’aririel. The repeated action places Atrugiel between those two princes in this scene.
Text and commentary
Odeberg’s apparatus records Atrugniel as a variant in his manuscript D. His commentary compares names in other Hekhalot passages, including guardians of the seventh hall. Those comparisons belong to the editor’s discussion; the principal passage here is the ceremonial encounter in chapter 18.
The scene offers a position within the heavenly assembly rather than an account of earthly interventions.
