Nanael appears in Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Book III, chapter 25. The chapter lists the name among seventy-two angels bearing the divine name Schemhamphoras.
A contemporary interpretation
Yoga Vidya’s contemporary German account associates Nanael with sciences and philosophy. It also connects the angel with communication, meditation and contemplation, including communication with God and other people.
The naming table and the contemporary discussion provide different kinds of information: Agrippa supplies a historical name witness, while Yoga Vidya develops symbolic associations.
