Nasargiel is called the Angel of Hell in Louis Ginzberg’s The Legends of the Jews, volume II, translated into English by Henrietta Szold.
Moses visits hell
In “Moses Visits Paradise and Hell,” Gabriel first accompanies Moses toward hell. When Moses enters, Nasargiel asks who he is. Moses identifies himself as the son of Amram and explains that he has come to see God’s power.
God then commands Nasargiel to show Moses how the wicked are treated. Nasargiel walks before Moses like a pupil before his master and explains the punishments they encounter. His guiding role belongs to this narrative in Ginzberg’s synthesis of Jewish legends.
