Remembering and recording deeds
The chapter “Barzakh: The Intermediate Realm” describes Ruman entering the grave and awakening the deceased person’s spiritual memory. He directs the person to record good and bad deeds.
The account presents this record as the collected events of a life. Ruman hangs it around its owner’s neck, to remain until the Day of Judgment.
