Asteraoth is an angelic name in the Testament of Solomon. In section 39 of F. C. Conybeare’s translation, the fifth of a group of female spirits identifies the angel that frustrates her.
The spirit called Power
The spirit calls herself Power and claims responsibility for elevating tyrants, overthrowing kings and strengthening rebels. She names Asteraôth as her opposing angel. Joseph H. Peterson’s accompanying note records the form Asteraoth in the translation designated D and compares the biblical name Ashtoreth.
A different textual role
This restraining role differs from that of the infernal duke Astaroth in later grimoires. The comparison concerns their roles in particular texts; similarity of spelling alone does not establish one continuous biography.
