Baraqijal is a leader of the Watchers in 1 Enoch and is associated with teaching astrology. Charles’s translation uses the form Barâqîjâl in chapters 6 and 8, while the later list in chapter 69 includes Barâqêl.
The Watcher lists
1 Enoch 6:7–8 places Barâqîjâl among the leaders of the angels who descend and bind themselves with an oath. The group is led by Semyaza. The narrative’s account of their conduct supplies the context for the list of names.
In 69:2, Barâqêl occupies the ninth place in a further enumeration. Comparing the lists is useful, but the text does not turn that position into a separate rank with a detailed chain of command.
The teaching attributed to Baraqijal
8:3 attributes astrology to Barâqîjâl. It assigns the constellations to Kokabel and other forms of knowledge to other named figures. The short attribution does not specify a complete system of horoscopes or all planetary calculations.
Readers may encounter Baraqiel or Barakiel in discussions of 3 Enoch. Those passages concern lightning or heavenly rulership and require their own textual comparison. Shared or related names across the works are not enough to establish that the holy ruler in one account has the same narrative history as a Watcher in another.
