Hagenti.

The spirit discussed here as Hagenti is printed Haagenti in the early modern catalogues examined below and ranked as a president. In Johann Weyer’s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (1577, entry 67) and the Goetia (entry 48, transcribed by Joseph H. Peterson primarily from British Library Sloane MS 3825), the figure appears initially in the form of a great bull with griffin wings before assuming human shape when commanded. The texts attribute to him the offices of instructing men in wisdom, transmuting metals into gold, and changing water into wine and wine into water.

Regarding military strength, the Goetia assigns Haagenti command over thirty-three legions of spirits, whereas Weyer’s Latin text states he commands as many legions as Zagan. The single-a spelling Hagenti is documented in Peterson’s comparative table of Goetic spirits (row 48), where editorial columns for Arthur Edward Waite and Idries Shah record Hagenti alongside earlier Haagenti witnesses.
