Armaros.

Armaros is a named leader of the rebellious angels in 1 Enoch. R. H. Charles’s translation spells the name Armârôs and associates him with the resolving of enchantments. This brief but specific teaching distinguishes his entry from the other names in the Watcher catalogue.

Armaros among the Watchers

1 Enoch 6:7–8 includes Armârôs among the leaders of the angels who descend in the days of Jared. The surrounding story describes a shared oath and the decision to take human wives. The leaders are called chiefs of tens.

A further catalogue in 69:2 also names Armârôs. The two lists have different forms and arrangements, so a precise ranking should not be turned into an explanation of his authority over every other Watcher.

What does resolving enchantments mean?

In 8:3, the teaching attributed to Armârôs concerns undoing enchantments. In the same passage, Semjaza teaches enchantments and root-cutting, while other figures receive different assignments. Armaros’s role belongs to that narrative of harmful instruction and its consequences.

The short attribution does not provide a ritual manual, a biography or a catalogue of modern magical services. Nor does this English passage establish a secure etymology for his name. Further Greek and Aramaic forms belong to the study of the manuscript witnesses and the notes in critical editions. They should be distinguished from the name and role actually printed in this translation.
