Halpas is a spelling reported for the grimoire spirit Halphas in Joseph H. Peterson’s comparative table. Weyer and the Goetia give Halphas the rank of great earl. In Johann Weyer’s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (1577, entry 43) and the Goetia (entry 38, edited by Joseph H. Peterson primarily from British Library Sloane MS 3825), the spirit speaks with a hoarse voice. Weyer’s entry describes a stork-like appearance; Peterson’s Goetia edition records stork and dove readings. The texts assign him twenty-six legions of spirits and the offices of building towns or towers, stocking them with weapons and ammunition, and dispatching warriors to appointed places.
The spelling Halpas is documented in Peterson’s comparative table of Goetic spirits (row 38), where columns for Arthur Edward Waite and Idries Shah record Halpas alongside earlier witnesses reading Halphas. Peterson notes minor scribal variations across manuscripts regarding whether he erects towns or towers, or appears as a stork or dove. Early modern catalogues treat Halphas and the president Malphas (entry 39) as separate entries with distinct offices and legion counts.
